Lately, I’ve been feeling drained in ways I can’t quite ignore. It's not just the usual exhaustion; there's an anger simmering beneath the surface, a sadness I can’t shake, a feeling of hopelessness, and headaches that seem to come out of nowhere. And I know I'm not alone in this. The world feels heavier, and social media is amplifying that weight to unbearable levels.
I know that feeling, that heaviness. You scroll through your feed, and it's as if the weight of the world is pressing down on your shoulders, collectively carrying the burdens of society's chaos.
What was once a space for connection and sharing information has become a war zone, a relentless cycle of negativity, outrage, and division that is taking a serious toll on our well-being.
The Toxicity of Social Media: Why It’s So Bad Right Now
Social media has evolved from a place where we could connect with family and friends to a high-stakes arena of opinion wars, public shaming, and algorithm-driven conflict. The constant barrage of bad news, arguments, and performative outrage is exhausting.
People speak to each other online in ways they never would in real life, emboldened by the screen and detached from the consequences of their words; hurling insults, demeaning strangers, and justifying it as “just speaking their truth.” But truth without respect is just cruelty disguised as righteousness.
Cancel culture, virtue signaling, shaming, and fake outrage fuel this toxic environment. We’re no longer having discussions; we’re looking for enemies to fight, people to call out, and reasons to be offended. Instead of seeing differing opinions as opportunities to grow, the trend now is to attack, dismiss, and demonize.
Addiction to Outrage: Running on Pure Emotion
There is an undeniable addiction to outrage in the digital world. The angrier something makes us, the more likely we are to engage with it. And social media platforms know this. Algorithms prioritize engagement, and what gets people engaged? Conflict, controversy, and divisive content. The more extreme, the better.
This creates an echo chamber effect, where we surround ourselves only with viewpoints that match their own, reinforcing our beliefs and growing hostility toward opposing perspectives.
This constant emotional charge keeps us in a perpetual state of stress and anger. It’s pitting friends and family members, even coworkers, against each other over political, social, and even trivial disagreements. We see loved ones as adversaries instead of allies. The division is growing, and the collective energy of the world is suffering because of it.
The Mental and Physical Impact
Ever felt drained after scrolling through social media? There’s a reason for that. The negativity overload, emotional triggers, and constant conflict take a toll on our mental and physical health. Constant exposure to high-conflict content can lead to:
Increased anxiety and depression
Sleep disturbances
Chronic stress and fatigue
Migraines and headaches
Feelings of helplessness and frustration
The energy we expose ourselves to affects us more than we realize. We are not meant to live in a state of constant emotional turmoil, yet that’s exactly what many of us experience every day because of what we engage with online.
The Spiritual Perspective: Low Vibrational Energy and Its Effects
From a spiritual standpoint, all of this negativity, operating at a low vibrational frequency, is at its peak. Anger, fear, resentment, and division lower our energy, keeping us trapped in a reality that isn’t aligned with who we truly are. This affects us individually and collectively. The more we engage with this low energy, the more we contribute to it, manifesting a reality where stress and hostility are the norm.
But we aren’t here to live in perpetual outrage. We did not come to this world to be consumed by division and anxiety. That is not our purpose.
We didn’t come here to consume chaos. We came here to create and evolve - by setting conscious intentions, we can reclaim our energy and walk a path aligned with our higher self. And in this journey, we must remember to protect our energy, nurturing it as we would a precious seed, so that we can grow into the best versions of ourselves. The more we immerse ourselves in social media’s toxicity, the further we drift from our true purpose. If we want to change our reality, we have to make intentional shifts in where we focus our attention and energy and reconnect with the divine feminine within.
The divine feminine is the embodiment of nurturing energy, intuition, and peace. She invites us to embrace our inner wisdom and intuition, guiding us back to our natural state of balance and inner peace, away from the chaos that surrounds us. She encourages us to move away from the chaos of the world and tune in to our inner wisdom. By reconnecting with this energy, we can cultivate mindfulness in every moment and rise above the divisiveness and negativity we encounter.
When we engage with the digital world mindfully - through the lens of compassion, patience, and introspection - we protect our peace. The divine feminine invites us to trust ourselves and align with our higher purpose, rather than getting lost in the low vibrational frequency of outrage and division.
We need to remember that we create our own reality. If we continue to focus on the worst in the world, we will find it. If we surround ourselves with negativity, we will absorb it. The good news is, we have the power to shift our energy, to reclaim our peace, and to break free from this cycle.
How to Protect Your Energy and Reclaim Your Peace
It’s time to take back control of our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. We have the power to protect our energy and reclaim peace, but it requires intention and action. Here’s how:
Set Boundaries with Social Media - Reduce your screen time and avoid the doomscrolling trap. Pay attention to how certain content makes you feel. If it drains your energy, it’s time to set boundaries and to limit exposure.
Curate Your Feed - Take charge of who and what you follow. Unfollow or snooze accounts that thrive on negativity, performative outrage, or constant conflict. Instead, curate a feed that inspires, uplifts, and informs and educates in a healthy way.
Protect Your Energy - Engage in practices that keep your vibration high. Meditate, practice gratitude, spend time in nature, or do anything that brings you joy and peace. Connecting with the divine feminine energy within you through mindfulness practices align with your higher self, cultivating a sense of inner peace that rises above external negativity.
Engage with Awareness - Before commenting or engaging in an argument, ask yourself: Is this worth my energy? Am I adding something valuable, or am I just reacting emotionally? If you’re not adding value, let it go. Protect your peace, remembering that your energy is sacred. Reflect on how your response aligns with your higher self and your purpose.
Seek Real-Life Connections - Obviously, social media is not real life. Make an effort to nurture in-person relationships, engage in meaningful conversations, and prioritize real-world connections.
Choose What You Manifest - If you constantly seek negativity, you will find it. But if you focus on the good, you will find that too. Pay attention to what you want to see in the world and actively create that reality. Energy flows where attention goes.
The Collective Shift: Raising Our Vibration
If enough of us step away from the outrage machine, the collective energy will shift. When we stop engaging in low vibrational chaos, we create space for higher frequencies - love, understanding, peace, and healing. We have more power than we realize to shape the energy of the world.
We are here to grow, love, and create, not to get lost in digital battles and endless negativity. It’s time to step back, reclaim our energy, and align with the reality we truly want to live in.
Reflection Prompt: How have you been feeling about your social media habits? Have you noticed any emotional or physical effects after scrolling for extended periods? Take a moment to journal on what shifts you could make in your digital habits to protect your energy. As you write in your journal, reflect on how these small shifts can create a profound transformation in your energy and your life. Reclaiming your peace starts with these conscious decisions, and you have the power to change your reality. Small changes can lead to big results. Consider how reconnecting with your divine feminine can help you rise above the negativity.
Small changes can lead to big results - start by unfollowing one account or reducing your screen time by 10 minutes today. These small shifts can build over time, leading to big results in your life.
Are you ready to make the shift? Are you ready to release the weight of the digital world and step into a reality where peace, connection, and personal growth take center stage? Your journey toward reclaiming your energy starts now - are you ready to step into a reality where peace, connection, and personal growth take center stage, just as I am in my own journey?
