Have you ever felt like you're just going through the motions, reacting to everything life throws at you, but never truly living?

Imagine the life you’ve always dreamed of - within reach, just waiting for you to step out of survival mode and into creation mode.

If you’ve ever felt like life was happening to you, rather than for you, then you know what it’s like to exist in survival mode. Constant demands, overwhelming responsibilities, and emotional exhaustion leave us feeling drained, uninspired, and disconnected from our true desires. We find ourselves simply reacting to life where we’re merely getting by, putting out fires, and navigating life’s fires, and never fully feeling in control.

In many ways I have been stuck in that spot of feeling like I am just existing since my marriage ended at the end of 2020, which is strange to me because I’ve accepted it and resolved my feelings surrounding it. But although I feel I have accomplished a lot, and in many ways I have, I’m just left with this feeling that something is missing.

But what if we could shift gears and move from just surviving to creating a life that is deeply fulfilling, vibrant, and in alignment with our true essence?

In this article, we’ll explore how we can master our mindset, heal emotional wounds, embrace our divine feminine energy, and tap into spiritual wisdom to move from surviving to thriving. Plus, I’ve included practical steps to make these shifts happen!

1. Unlocking the Power of Your Mindset: The First Step to Creating Your Dream Life

In survival mode, our thoughts can feel like the enemy - constantly feeding us stories of what we can’t do, what hasn’t worked, and why this time will be no different, and these don’t even need to be conscious thoughts. These ingrained beliefs can block our ability to see possibilities and embrace opportunities, making it seem like change is an uphill battle.

When we are stuck in survival mode, it’s easy to feel trapped by our thoughts and beliefs. Negative thinking patterns, like feeling inadequate or believing that life is always out of our control, keep us on autopilot - reacting to external circumstances without ever taking the reins.

Shifting our mindset begins with awareness, followed by intentional effort to replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones.

The How:

Mastering our mindset is about actively choosing to think in ways that support our desired reality. Start by becoming aware of those limiting thoughts that keep you stuck and begin replacing them with beliefs that support the life you really want.

Practical Steps:

  • Daily Gratitude Practice: Every morning or night, write down 3-5 things you’re grateful for. This can be as simple as your health, a supportive friend, or a beautiful moment in your day. I like to focus on the moments because it trains our brains to look for the positive throughout our day, rather than always seeing the negative.

  • Affirmations: Create personalized affirmations that counter limiting beliefs. For example, if you often feel like you’re not good enough, an affirmation could be: “I am worthy of all the success, love, and abundance life has to offer.”

  • Visualization: Spend 5-10 minutes each day visualizing your ideal life. Picture the details vividly: What does your dream job look like? What kind of relationships do you have? How do you feel? Allow yourself to fully experience the emotions that arise.

The Why:

When we work to shift our mindset, we begin to see opportunities rather than challenges. Our thoughts directly influence our emotions and actions, so when we choose to think positively and constructively, when we start to see life from a place of possibility rather than limitation, we are more likely to take the necessary actions that will lead us toward our dreams. When our mind believes it can create change, our actions will follow - and we begin to see that we have the power to shift our reality.

2. Letting Go of the Past: How Healing Your Emotional Wounds Frees Your Power

When emotional wounds remain unresolved, they can cloud our judgment and leave us feeling powerless. We may find ourselves replaying the same patterns, unable to move forward or trust others. This emotional weight can make it difficult to step into the confident, empowered version of ourselves that we know we are meant to be.

Many women (and men) carry emotional baggage from the past - unhealed traumas, broken relationships, or disappointments that still hold emotional charge. If we are in survival mode, we may find ourselves reacting to situations from a place of past hurt, rather than making decisions based on our present desires. Healing emotional wounds requires acknowledging these scars, processing them, and letting them go.

In my own life I have had to work really hard at resolving my abandonment issues. Starting with my biological father when I was a child, right up to the man who was my partner in life for 30 years, this is an area that I have struggled with greatly. Feelings of being disposable don’t disappear over night and I’ll admit, I’m not 100% there yet.

The How:

Healing emotional wounds is not about erasing the past - it’s about acknowledging the pain, learning from it, and letting go of the emotional charge that keeps us stuck. This process allows us to release the weight of past experiences and move forward with freedom.

Practical Steps:

  • Journaling: Dedicate time to write about your past experiences, focusing on one event or relationship that still feels unresolved. Write about how it made you feel, what you learned from it, and how you can release the pain.

  • Energy Healing: Consider trying practices like Reiki, acupuncture, or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). These can help release emotional blockages and promote healing.

  • Therapy or Support Groups: Working with a therapist or joining a support group allows you to process your feelings in a safe environment. Speaking about your experiences can be a powerful form of healing.

The Why:

Carrying emotional wounds limits our ability to create a life that feels free and expansive, healing emotional wounds is necessary because the past can be an invisible force holding us back. These wounds, when unresolved, can trigger feelings of fear, inadequacy, or defensiveness, preventing us from moving forward. Healing these wounds helps us release old emotional baggage, making room for new, positive experiences.

3. Reconnecting with Your Divine Feminine: Awakening the Power Within

In survival mode, we might feel that our needs take a backseat. We may find it difficult to slow down, rest, or nurture ourselves, believing that there’s always something more urgent that requires our attention. This creates a cycle of depletion, leaving us disconnected from our own desires and needs.

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us are disconnected from our divine feminine energy - the nurturing, intuitive, creative force that resides within us. Society often encourages us to “do more” and “be more” instead of simply being and flowing with life. Reconnecting with our divine feminine requires slowing down, tuning into our inner voice, and nurturing our own well-being.

The How:

The divine feminine is the energy of creation, intuition, and nurturing. Embracing this energy requires slowing down, tuning into our emotions and intuition, and allowing ourselves to receive. It’s about remembering that we are a powerful creator in the world, and that our worth is inherent, not dependent on external achievements.

Practical Steps:

  • Connect with Your Body: Practice body awareness through yoga, dance, or even simple stretches. Pay attention to how your body feels, and listen to its cues for rest, nourishment, and movement.

  • Engage in Creative Expression: Try painting, drawing, journaling, singing, or any other creative outlet. Creative expression is a direct channel to your divine feminine energy.

  • Self-Care Rituals: Create rituals that nurture your soul, like taking a bath with essential oils, reading a book that inspires you, or spending time in nature. Make these rituals a regular part of your routine.

The Why:

The divine feminine is a source of creativity, intuition, and emotional intelligence. Reclaiming our divine feminine energy is about reconnecting with our natural flow of creativity, intuition, and inner strength. It helps us embrace our true worth, stepping into a place of alignment where we don’t have to “prove” ourselves anymore. When we nurture and honor our divine feminine, we feel more empowered, centered, and able to trust our decisions.

4. Accessing Your Spiritual Wisdom: Aligning with Your Higher Self for Clarity

When stuck in survival mode, it’s easy to feel disconnected from a higher purpose or greater source of guidance. Spiritual wisdom can help us navigate life’s challenges with clarity, trust, and a sense of direction.

We may feel lost or uncertain about our next steps, as if we’re just reacting to life’s demands without a true sense of direction. This disconnection can lead to feelings of overwhelm or confusion. Tapping into this wisdom requires quieting the noise and making space for deeper connection.

The How:

Our spiritual wisdom comes from within, and it’s the voice of our higher self. Tuning into this wisdom requires creating quiet space in your life to listen and allowing yourself to trust the intuitive nudges that arise.

Practical Steps:

  • Meditation: Start with 5-10 minutes of meditation each day. Focus on your breath or listen to guided meditations designed to connect you with your higher self or spiritual guidance.

  • Mindful Awareness: Pay attention to signs, synchronicities, and dreams. These can often be subtle ways that the universe communicates with you, offering guidance or answers to questions you may have.

  • Spiritual Practices: Whether it’s reading spiritual texts, working with crystals, or exploring new ways of connecting to the divine, engage in practices that help you feel more connected to your spiritual essence.

The Why:

Our higher self knows the path we’re meant to walk. Spiritual wisdom helps us see the bigger picture and make decisions that align with our true purpose. It allows us to access guidance, clarity, and inspiration that comes from a place of deep knowing and provides clarity in moments of doubt, offering guidance and support when we feel uncertain.

By aligning with our higher self we make choices that are in harmony with our soul’s path, creating more peace and flow in our life.

5. Taking Control: Becoming the Conscious Creator of Our Reality

To truly step into creation mode, we must take intentional, consistent action toward the life we desire. This means consciously designing our reality rather than allowing life to unfold without direction. By setting clear intentions and taking inspired action, we become the creator of our future.

In survival mode, we may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of responsibilities and demands on our time. This can lead to a lack of direction or action, leaving us feeling stuck. The fear of failure or uncertainty about the future may also paralyze us from taking steps toward your goals.

The How:

To become the conscious creator of our life, we need to set clear intentions, take aligned action, and trust the process. Creating a life that aligns with our desires requires both inner work and outward action.

Practical Steps:

  • Set Clear Goals: Write down what you truly desire—both short-term and long-term. Break these goals down into smaller, actionable steps. Make them specific, measurable, and aligned with your deepest values.

  • Take Daily Action: Every day, take at least one step toward your goals. Whether it’s learning something new, reaching out to a potential collaborator, or simply researching an idea, consistent action compounds over time.

  • Trust the Process: Understand that not everything will happen instantly. Trust that your efforts are leading you toward your dreams. Even setbacks can be valuable learning experiences.

The Why:

Becoming a conscious creator means taking full responsibility for our life and actively shaping our future. When we take aligned action and trust the process, we move from feeling reactive to proactive, empowering ourselves to create the life we desire. Each intentional step brings us closer to our dreams, and the act of creation brings a deep sense of fulfillment.

When we take intentional, aligned action toward our goals, we create momentum that propels us forward. We stop being passive observers in our lives and start actively shaping our experiences. Conscious creation puts us in the driver’s seat of our own destiny, where we are empowered to manifest your desires.

When taking any action, ask yourself “Does what I am about to do bring me closer to or further away from the life I want to live?

6. Living a Life That Lights You Up: The Reward of Living Authentically

Living a life that lights us up means aligning with what brings us joy, peace, and fulfillment over stress and exhaustion. It’s about continually creating a life that feels good to us on all levels - emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

In survival mode, it’s easy to neglect our own needs in favor of others or external demands.

Practical Steps:

  • Identify What Brings You Joy: Make a list of activities, people, and environments that make you feel alive, happy, and at peace. Make time for these things regularly.

  • Set Boundaries: Protect your energy by saying “no” to things that drain you or don’t align with your values. Create boundaries in relationships and work that allow you to prioritize your well-being.

  • Celebrate Your Wins: Regularly reflect on your accomplishments and take time to celebrate them, no matter how small. This reinforces positive momentum and reminds you of how far you’ve come.

The Why:

When we live a life that lights us up, we naturally attract more of the things we desire. By prioritizing our happiness and well-being, we raise our vibration, which in turn attracts opportunities, love, and success. We become a magnet for abundance because we are living authentically and in alignment with our true self.

Final Thoughts

Shifting from survival mode to creation mode is not a one-time event—it’s a journey. It requires healing, reflection, intention, and consistent action. But the rewards are immeasurable. By mastering our mindset, healing emotional wounds, embracing our divine feminine, and tapping into spiritual wisdom, we become the conscious creator of our reality. Life becomes not just about surviving but about thriving, designing a life that’s filled with joy, love, and self-trust.
